Sports ... The larger lakes of the Thompson Shuswap
region are prime for water sports. Each Lake provides a unique
atmosphere, tons of scenery and allot of room to play. The main
water sport lakes, all, have a good selection of sandy beaches,
boat launches, marinas and campgrounds.
Every year the bigger lakes are buzzing with boats
pulling water skiers, tubers and wakeboarders. Although the bigger
lakes get all the attention there are a few smaller lakes too
that permit larger boats for fishing and water skiing but provide
no amenities, less room and access could be rough along gravel
roads.
The water skiing and wakeboarding lakes in the
Thompson Shuswap region that are the most popular for water sports
include Kamloops Lake near the community of, you guessed it, Kamloops;
Shuswap Lake near the communities of Sicamous and Salmon Arm and
Nicola Lake near the community of Merritt, BC.
Many arrive in the region with boat in tow. Often
the boat is being towed by a camper so to, also, take advantage
of the many campgrounds in the area around the lakes. Some of
the lakes, like Shuswap Lake, have tour operators nearby so rentals
and lessons are available for the budding water skier and wakeboarder.
When operating any boat on any lake with public
beaches please be aware of your surroundings and avoid busy areas
and other boats, when possible. Littering is also not cool when
enjoying out BC lakes.
Lake information plus
the contact information for the local Thompson-Shuswap accommodations,
rentals, guides, tours, golf courses, activities, attractions,
etc. are posted under the community links listed to your
