| Snowmobiling...
In the Thompson Shuswap region, almost every community has an
extensive snowmobile trail network nearby. In many cases there
are two or three destinations attracting snowmobilers. Because
of the vast country landscape and the heavy annual snowfall in
the mountains the Thompson Shuswap is a prime area in the winter
for snowmobiling.
During the winter months
the mountain ranges, the alpine meadows and the frozen lakes take
on a whole new feel layered in white, covered in blankets of snow.
The gravel roads, the dirt bike trails and some hiking trails
all become snowmobile routes in the winter. In many cases a snowmobile
is the mode of transportation of choice in the interior getting
to and from communities.
There are tour companies in many communities. The
tour companies usually operate outside of the communities in the
backcountry or from one of the snow mountains in the area. The
adventure companies providing snowmobile tours usually include
lessons, the machine and a guide. Some multi day tours include
the accommodations and meals.
Some of the communities in the region have created snowmobile
clubs. An association that usually creates snowmobile routes and
maintains a section of the mountain assigned for snowmobile use.
Contacting the clubs is a good start to planning a snowmobile
adventure. They will be able to provide directions and maps to
the snowmobile recreation areas in the community.
Some of the snowmobile destinations to make note of when in the
Thompson Shuswap region during the winter months around Merritt
BC include Swakum Mountain, Helmer Lake and Mount Bob. The small
community of Logan Lake has a large network of snowmobile routes
around Face Lake, Paska Lake and Leighton Lake called the Logan
Lake Snowmobile Routes.
The community of Kamloops, BC, also, has a network of snowmobile
trails around Roche Lake and even more trails to explore in Lac
Le Jeune. In Cache Creek, B.C. there are the Allen Creek Snowmobile
Trails.
The Shuswap Lake area enjoys a very large selection of snowmobile
trails exploring many mountains, lakes and rivers. Depending on
where you stay on the lake will play a big part in determining
which trails you explore. Some of the snowmobile trail systems
in the area to consider include the Skimkin Creek, Tod Mountain,
Cicero Creek, Adams, Barriere, Quest Mountain, Boulder Mountain,
Crowfoot Mountain, Lichen Mountain, North Shuswap and Fly Hills
Snowmobile Routes.
