Skiing & Snowboarding...
In the Thompson Shuswap region there is one large ski hill operating
as a year round recreation destination located north of Kamloops,
British Columbia, Canada named Sun Peaks. The mountain is the
main ski resort in the region catering to downhill skiers and
snowboarders.
The mountain ski resort covers over 3, 678 hectares
of wilderness countryside. It is the second largest ski hill in
British Columbia and the third largest in Canada. A total of 122
trails cover the mountain side with 10% of the trails rated as
novice, 58% intermediate and 32% expert. The longest ski run is
said to be 8 kilometres ( 5 miles) long.
In the winter months the hill is explored by many
who enjoy snowboarding, downhill and cross country skiing. The
summit peaks at 2,152 metres (7,060 feet) and has a vertical of
881 metres (2,891 feet). The 12 lifts on the mountain service
the two alpine bowls, the two snowboard terrain parks, the tube
park and the many snow trails.
The village located at the base of the mountain
is fully equipped to service most travelers. In the village is
a good selection of accommodations, tour groups and restaurants.
