Offroading... The massive network of gravel roads, trails and decommissioned railway lines located in the Thompson Shuswap region provides many hours of enjoyment for many ATVs, 4x4s and dirt bikers.

The selection of routes do vary in the Thompson Shuswap region with some remote routes designated for offroad fun only while other routes are commonly shared with horseback riders, hikers and mountain bikers. It is always wise to keep your head up and make noise well exploring on the trail.

Some of the offroad routes in the region are single track routes suitable for dirt bikes only. Then there are routes, a little wider, that permit atvs as well. Large 4x4 vehicles are designated to the gravel roads and do not have access to the narrow trails. It is important to obey all posted signs when exploring the trail networks in the region.

Most backcountry enthusiasts arrive in the Thompson Shuswap region with their offroad vehicles in tow. The local campgrounds near the offroad trails, often, have atvs and dirt bikes parked in many of the campsites. For those without an offroad vehicle, no worries, some of the local Thompson Shuswap communities have atv and dirt bike rental shops and tours.

When off roading in the region it is always wise to have a well prepared trip plan and good equipment. The weather has been known to play tricks on people when exploring the BC wilderness. In the past floods have washed out bridges, active logging has altered road patterns and fallen trees from wind storms have blocked roads in and out.

Some of the more popular offroading routes for dirt biking, 4x4ing and ATVing in the Thompson Shuswap region include the Greenstone Mountain, GKMA, Leighton Lake and Chuwhels Mountain routes near the community of Logan Lake BC.; Helmer Lake near Merritt, BC and the Batchelor Heights and Inks Lake Trails near Kamloops, BC.
