Mountain
Biking... There are many backcountry trails in
the Thompson Shuswap region explored by mountain bikers. There
are biking trails which are short and sweet exploring communities.
And there are some longer biking adventures in the Thompson Shuswap
region leading to remote lakes, rivers, wetlands, viewpoints,
waterfalls and estuaries.
There are communities who have developed extensive
trail systems within designated Bike Parks highlighting downhill
runs, trick wooden ramps and dirt jumps. The Bike Ranch and the
BMX Track in McArthur Park in Kamloops, BC are two good examples.
Many mountain bikers who arrive in the Thompson
Shuswap region bring their own bikes and plan their own routes
to explore. Others arrive in the area looking to book a bike tour
or arrange a mountain bike rental.
When visiting the area some decide to bike the
paved community paths connecting parks and neighbourhoods like
the River Trail in Kamloops, BC while others prefer exploring
the network of dirt trails found in the wilderness regions of
the Thompson Shuswap.
Some of the more popular backcountry mountain bike
trails include the Mojo Skakum Ridge Trails and the Hogsback Trail
near Merritt, BC; the Greenstone Mountain Trails near Logan Lake,
BC; the Pinantan Mountain, Harper Mountain, Lake Shore Loop, Paul
Lake and Peterson Creek Trails near Kamloops BC and the Sicamous
Lookout, Bastion Mountain, Anglemont Mountain and the Simms Creek
Bike Loop Trails in the Shuswap Lake region.
Thompson Shuswap mountain biking trails are located
all over the region. There are a few bike service and repair shops
in some of the communities to get you through the bumps along
the way. Bike rentals, sales, and tours are located in selected
communities as well.
It is important to keep your head up while exploring
the mountain bike trails in the region because many of the trails
are shared routes with hikers, dirt bikers and horseback riders.
We encourage all mountain biking trips to be done with safety
in mind which will ensure a high level of excitement without incident.
