Lake Provincial Park is a
rugged and remote recreation park on the Thompson Plateau consisting
of seven lakes located south of Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.
Although access to the 2,041 hectare park is along some very rough
gravel roads, the serenity and beauty of the environment is worth
the trip.
Each lake in the remote park is stocked with rainbow
trout. But gravel road access is available to only a few of the
fishing and camping lakes. Hiking unmanaged trails will get you
to most of the remaining, more remote, lakes on the east side
of the park like the John Frank, Bulman, and Ernest Lakes.
Wilderness camping is provided on Roche (29 campsites)
and Horseshoe ( 4 campsites) Lakes. Both accessed by gravel roads.
Be aware that some sections of the gravel road is rough with deep
holes and exposed tree roots... and that the entrance to some
campsites is very tricky with lots of opportunity to get stuck.
The sights and sounds in this park captivate your
attention. During the day the loons sing and people fish and during
the night the rainbow trout jump and crickets clap to break the
silence. Moose, deer and Black Bear roam the forests and birds
such as the mallard, vesper sparrow, loon and mountain bluebird
all take flight in the park.
Roche Lake Provincial Park is a very popular year
round recreation destination for many outdoor activities since
it was established in 1996. In the summer the park entertains
the fishing, canoeing, kayaking, camping, birdwatching, mountain
biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, hiking and boating enthusiasts.
In the winter the park is covered in snow attracting the snowshoeing,
ice fishing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing adventurers.
