| McArthur
Island Park is one of the
most popular parks in the region providing the means and amenities
for many sightseeing moments and recreational activities when
visiting Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. The park is a recreation
destination catering to the young and old in the community.
The island park rests on the
Thompson River providing great river views during many activities.
A recreation destination visited by many who enjoy cycling, lawn
bowling, golfing, walking, sightseeing, jogging, biking, skateboarding,
roller bladding, tennis, frisbee, football, picnics, etc.
The island park is 51 hectares of flower gardens,
trees and open grass fields. A paved 3 kilometre loop trail with
viewing benches is a good way to explore the park. A popular walking
route used by hikers, joggers, roller bladders and birdwatchers.
The McArthur Island loop path is also a part of the larger 40
kilometre Rivers
Trail. A treat of a trail exploring nieghbourhoods, lakes,
rivers, wetlands and more.
The McArthur Island walking trail and the one-way
access road circling the perimeter of the park is the best way
to access the many playing fields - 9 baseball diamonds, a BMX
track, a golf course and some soccer fields. There is also a skateboard
park, picnic park, birdwatching lagoon and a boat launch located
in the park.
McArthur Island is a well maintained green space
park with plenty of room to play and picnic. Flower gardens provide
the scents and colors in the park and the massive trees provide
the shade and character. It is up to you to show up and provide
the fun.
Just in case, there is some washrooms in the park
available for public use.
How to
get to McArthur Island Park: From downtown Kamloops
travel west on Victoria Street and look for the signs pointing
to the North Shore. From Victoria Street take a right at Fortune
Drive and continue traveling for approximately 3 kilometres. Fortune
Drive will intersect with 8th street and Tranquille Drive. Merge
onto Tranquille Road. Then take a left at 12th Street. 1 kilometre
ahead is the entrance to the park.
