and Backpacking... The Thompson Shuswap region
day hikes and multi day backpacking adventures provide many thrills
and memorable moments of activity for many outdoor enthusiasts
who visit the region every year. There are short trails along
well maintained signed routes and there are long-haul multi-day
excursions with wilderness camping opportunities.
Some hiking adventures in the Thompson Shuswap
region lead to lakes, rivers, wetlands and estuaries while others
may lead to viewpoints, waterfalls or pictographs. Some hike the
trails for birdwatching and wildlife viewing opportunities. And
there are others that hike the trails in the region so to spend
some time fishing, swimming, camping or canoeing.
Regardless of the where your hiking or backpacking
adventure takes you it is important to be well planned and prepared
with proper clothing, a sound trip plan and good equipment. Always
match your abilities with your adventure and be wilderness wise.
Some of the short hikes in the region include the
Lake Shore Loop Trail near Kamloops, B.C. and the interpretive
walking trail located in Marble Canyon near the community of Cache
Creek, BC. The Sicamous Creek, Hunakwa Lake, Bastion Mountain
and White Lake Lookout Trails area some of the shorter routes
explored in the Shuswap Lake area.
There are many longer hikes in the region. Some
adventures can be completed in a day, while others can be explored
in sections and, then there are those hikes that take days to
enjoy.
Near the community of Kamloops there are few longer
routes to enjoy like the 7 kilometre trail around Paul Lake, the
40+ kilometre paved walkway exploring the Thompson River, the
30+ kilometre Peterson Creek Trails and the 45+ kilometres of
trail around Strake Lake.
Shuswap Lake is a very popular year round hiking
destination located in the interior Columbia Mountain region of
British Columbia, Canada. Many hiking trails are located on and
near Shuswap Lake. One of the more popular hiking destinations
include the 26 kilometre trail system in the Roderick Haig Brown
Provincial Park. A particular popular destination during the salmon
spawning season.
