Fishing... In the Thompson Shuswap region there
are a high number of lakes and rivers attracting the attention
of many fishing enthusiasts. Some come to the area to fly fish
on the shores of one of the many rivers in the area while others
arrive with boat in tow, looking to launch on a lake and troll
for trout.
Some of the lakes and rivers in the Thompson-Shuswap
region are easily accessible by vehicle while others are situated
in the rugged back country regions tucked away in remote wilderness
locations. Some rivers provide a relaxing fishing experience while
others require hipwaiters and a good sense of balance fighting
currents while casting a line.
There are lakes in the region with marinas, stores,
piers and open water moorage opportunities. Some lakes provide
roof top boat launches for use by small alumnium boats and canoes
with eco friendly outboard motors. All lakes and rivers require
a liscence in order to fish in BC, Canada.
Fresh water fish include rainbow trout, Dolly Varden,
brook trout, bull trout, white fish, kokanee and steelhead. Saltwater
fish found in the large spawning rivers of the Thompson Shuswap
region include all five types of salmon.
Some of the more popular fishing destinations include
McConnell Lake, Paul Lake, Lac Le Jeune and Roche Lake near the
community of Kamloops BC. Marble Canyon and the Thompson River
are good choices for flyfishing in the Cache Creek area of the
province. Face, Leighton and Tunkwa Lakes near the community of
Logan Lake are popular fishing destinations. Shuswap Lake and
the many Provincial Parks on the massive lake still creates a
buzz among many fisherman.
